Privacy Policy
A plain account of the minimal data CamoCrypt collects, why, how long we keep it, and our commitment never to sell it.
Our approach
CamoCrypt is a publication, not a data business. We collect as little as we can, we use it only to run the site and reply to you, and we do not sell your data to anyone, ever. This policy explains, in plain terms, what that means in practice. If anything here is unclear, ask us via the contact page.
What we collect
There are three ways we might hold data about you:
- Information you send us. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive whatever you choose to include — typically your email address, your name if you give it, and the content of your message. Please do not send secrets; as our contact page notes, we never need seed phrases, keys, or passwords.
- Basic technical logs. Like almost all websites, our server records standard request information such as IP address, date and time, the page requested, referring page, and browser user-agent. This is used to keep the site running, diagnose problems, and protect against abuse and attacks.
- Aggregate analytics. If we use analytics to understand which articles are read, we configure it to be privacy-respecting and to report in aggregate. We are interested in whether a security explainer is reaching people, not in tracking individuals across the web.
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not run advertising networks that profile you across sites.
Cookies
We aim to keep cookies to the minimum. Any cookies we set are for essential functions — for example, remembering a preference or keeping the site secure. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or to sell your browsing behaviour. If we use an analytics tool that sets a cookie, we prefer configurations that minimise or avoid personal identifiers. Your browser lets you block or delete cookies; the site will still work if you do.
Why we use your data
We use the limited data above only to:
- Respond to your messages and corrections.
- Operate, secure, and maintain the website.
- Understand, in aggregate, which content is useful so we can improve it.
- Meet legal obligations where they apply.
We do not use your data to profile you for advertising, and we do not combine it with data bought from third parties.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in narrow cases: with service providers who help us run the site (such as hosting or email delivery) and only to the extent needed to provide that service; and where we are legally required to, such as a valid legal request. Any provider we use is expected to handle data responsibly and only on our instructions.
Retention
We keep data no longer than we need it. Correspondence is kept while it is useful for handling your query and any follow-up, then deleted or archived. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then rotated out. Aggregate analytics that do not identify you may be kept longer, because they carry little privacy risk.
Your choices and rights
You can contact us to ask what personal data we hold about you, to request a copy, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted, subject to any legal requirement we must meet. Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights under laws such as the GDPR or similar regimes; we will honour applicable rights. To make a request, use the contact page, and please give us enough detail to find your data.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we hold, but no website can promise perfect security. Please help us by not sending sensitive information you do not need to — and never sending secrets like seed phrases or private keys to us or anyone else.
Third-party links
Our articles link to external sources so you can verify claims. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. When you follow a link off CamoCrypt, this policy no longer applies.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page. Because our model is to collect little and sell nothing, we expect changes to be infrequent and minor. Continued use of the site after an update means the current version applies.
